The Blessed Gerard

The founder and first Master of the eleventh-century Hospital of St John in Jerusalem, the Blessed Gerard is believed to have been a lay brother of the Benedictine Order, known in legend for his piety and humility. He oversaw a hospital that cared for patients of the Jewish, Muslim and Christian faiths, irrespective of their financial means.
