Sculpted in alabaster by Esteban Jordan,, this figure is identified as a Knight of St John by the cross on his breastplate. The effigy was a gift from Sir Guy Laking, an art historian and member of the Order. Originally thought to be Don Juan Ruiz de Vergara, a Spanish Knight, recent research disputes this identification, returning him to anonymity.
