The Shoeburyness Military Hospital
The military hospital at Shoeburyness, Essex, was a state-of-the-art hospital that opened in 1856. At the time, it was likely the most advanced barrack hospital, with general wards, a large internal kitchen, and provision for isolation cases. It is believed that Florence Nightingale inspected it shortly after it was opened.
