Civil Defence beret
The Civil Defence Corps was founded in 1949 in the face of the growing tensions of the Cold War. The standard uniform for the male and female volunteers would have been navy blue battledress, and a navy blue beret. The CDC emblem for England and Wales was a standing lion. This example features the king’s crown which was used alongside the queen’s crown into the 1960s.
